Jonathan makes this weeknight classic all the time! This recipe makes tons of hearty sauce that goes super well with a good garlic bread.
Low – 2/5 stars
16oz mild italian sausage
1/2 yellow onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
3 cloves garlic, mined
8oz cremini mushrooms
1 16oz can diced tomatoes
1 45oz jar Prego traditional pasta sauce
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon dried basil (or fresh!)
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon fennel seed
3 bay leaves
3 tablespoons white sugar
2 boxes of spaghetti noodles
- Start to brown the sausage in a frying pan over medium heat, breaking it into small chunk as it cooks. After a few minutes, add chopped onions, green peppers, garlic, and mushrooms into the pan. Saute until the onions and peppers are soft.
- Add the can of diced tomatoes, all seasonings, and sugar into the pan. Cover a let simmer for a few minutes.
- Move the content of the pan into a larger pot. Stir in the whole jar of Prego spaghetti sauce and bring the sauce to a boil. Cover again and let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through. While the sauce is simmering, cook the pasta according to it’s packaging.
- Serve sauce over pasta with garlic bread on the side.
